Wisdom Essay Rubric

Directions: Use the following guideline to evaluate the essay which assesses learning at the end of Lesson Nineteen.

In order to receive a 4-point score, the response must:

 
  • define "wisdom" or "discernment".
  • describe an instance of difficulty in their own (or someone else’s) life.
  • give an example from one of the folktales from this lesson where a character had a difficult decision to make.
  • compare or contrast how the two situations were alike or different in terms of how the person tried to decide what to do.
  • describe their own decision-making process and determine if it was the right thing to do.
  • advise others on what to do if in a similar situation or with a difficult decision to make.

In order to receive a 3-point score, the response must:

 
  • define "wisdom" or "discernment".
  • contain four of the remaining five elements.

In order to receive a 2-point score, the response must:

 
  • define "wisdom" or "discernment".
  • contain two or three of the remaining five elements.
